It is the story of a woman and a man, Anne and Jean-Philippe, who’d like to adopt a child. They make a request to Mali, travel there, are dazzled. They hope, are confident. And suddenly, a military coup overthrows the president of a country known for its stability. Then it is a new law, supported by the Islamic parties, that forbid them from adopting. The terrorist chaos looms, France enters the war. Rififi dans le tiroir establishes the chronicle of a transformation : how this couple sees its status chanding : from wait-and-see to unsubmissive. Because there starts a diplomatic campaign that a handful of applicants parents in Mali like them are going to lead. They’ll have to deploy will and endurance. The family project becomes geopolitic.
